Seminar: “Competition Litigation And Collective Redress: A Comparative EU analysis with focus on Spain and Recent Developments in the UK”

On September 12, Barry Rodger, professor at the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow) presented his recent research on private enforcement of competition rules in the EU. The presentation was entitled Competition Litigation And Collective Redress: A Comparative EU analysis with focus on Spain and Recent Developments in the UK. He described the empirical study of judicial cases in this area in the EU from 1999 to 2012, analysing with detail the British experience and with some reflections on the situation in Spain. The evidence presented by Professor Rodger about the absence of damage claims (and the use of litigation for other purposes) contrasts with last June proposal for a directive by the European Commission that focuses only on damages.

His speech was briefly discussed by Francisco Marcos, IE Law School professor and fellow of the EEC/IE, which led to a rich discussion with participants in the seminar, in which some of the professionals in the room shared their knowledge and experiences on the matter.
