The IE Center for European Studies organized the seminar “Spain and the European Court of Justice” This was the fourth and last one of a series called “Spain: A key player in the European institutions. 30 years of membership in the European Union?” sponsored by the program “Hablamos de Europa” of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
The speakers were Nuria Diaz Abad, currently Member of the Consejo General del Poder Judicial and former Chief State Attorney before the Court of Justice, and Daniel Sarmiento, former Référendaire at the European Court of Justice and Professor of EU Law and Administrative Law at the Complutense University of Madrid and at IE Law School.
Nuria Diaz Abad focused her presentation on the representation and defense of Spain’s interests before the European Court of Justice. Daniel Sarmiento, for his part, analyzed exhaustively the internal functioning of the Court. He also referred to the most relevant judgements of the European Court of Justice which refer to Spain.
